After taking a student apprenticeship in pump engineering, I followed a twenty-five year career in industry, working for a number of major manufacturers of pumping and fluid control systems. Having latterly been responsible for recruiting and training apprentice engineers, I developed an interest in teaching and learning, so took an opportunity to retrain as a teacher.
I taught mathematics in secondary school (ages 11 to 16) for eleven years, working with students across the age and attainment ranges, and I developed the provision of one-to-one and small-group tuition for both remediation and extension; this included working with students with SEN, and coaching for those aiming for the very highest grades at GCSE to secure specialist sixth-form college entry. I retired from full-time teaching in 2019, so am up to date with the latest curriculum developments.
My outside interests include photography, music and gardening: I am a keen vegetable grower.Back to about page
